Library
Orley Farm Library has three dedicated sites in Pre-Prep, Middle School and Upper School, all of which are network-linked and accessible from any computer in the school.
The Upper School Library (Davies Library), dating from 1990, is an ample purpose-built facility in the Gardner building. All staff and pupils have access to the full library catalogue from any computer. Items can be reserved, accounts checked and reviews written on-line.
All pupils, including the Pre-Prep have a period in the library each week. These lessons will include private reading, time to change and choose new items and library instruction. Over fifteen thousand items are available to the pupils and staff, including not only books, but also CDs, DVDs, newspapers and magazines.
The role of the library is to provide resources which encourage pupils to learn independently and for staff to draw upon in support of their teaching. It also plays an important role in enabling pupils to become capable and enthusiastic readers.
The libraries are welcoming and comfortable. Pupils can work at the desks or relax in the easy chairs with an enjoyable read. There are regular visiting authors, book swaps and book-readings by teachers and local bookshop staff. The libraries are staffed by a qualified librarian who is ably assisted by pupil librarians from the Upper School.
