Edge…a new frontier!

12/09/2014

Today was a very exciting day…launch day of our ‘Edge Programme’.  Last year staff decided to put together a list of opportunities and experiences that every Orley Farm pupil would try in order to give them an ‘edge’ in life.  These experiences range from cooking a stir fry to ironing shirts, from repairing a puncture to growing your own vegetables, from washing the school minibuses to hosting tea parties for small groups of local elderly folk.

Today I joined the mountain-biking team as they prepared their bikes, their safety equipment and themselves for a 5 week programme in cycling proficiency.  Mr Cato and Mr Davies opened the magical ‘Edge Shed’ to unveil 15 shiny new bikes to some very excited Yr 5 pupils (thank you to the Orley Farm Association for donating funds for the bikes and helmets).

From all accounts, this launch was a stratospheric success and the buzz around school was fantastic to see and feel.  Thank you to all staff for their wonderfully creative programmes and very large thank you to Mrs Harrison for the mountain of background work over the past year….Yr 5 – Yr 8 pupils will have some amazing stories to tell.  I will endeavour to shadow a group each week to bring you their stories…

…but for more info, please do read the pages under ‘Beyond the Classroom’…Edge Programme…
