OFS bring home Gold at Durston House

27/11/2016

As the season draws to a close the U11’s went to the Durston House tournament on Saturday morning.  A tough schedule of nine 8 minute games meant the boys had to remain focused throughout the morning, with hard work, good skill and a little slice of luck we prevailed, winning the tournament outright from Durston House by 1 point in an extremely tight finish to the morning.

Our results included:  beating Sussex House 1-0 (Gravesande), Quainton Hall 2-0 (Gravesande, Popat), The Hall 1-0 (Tani), Devonshire House 3-1 (Popat x2, Mentesh), Kings House 1-0  (Mentesh).  Drawing with Durston House 1-1 (Popat) and Rokeby 1-1 (Tani ??) and losing our only game to Lyndhurst House 1-2 (Mentesh).

Golden Moments included Kyan Mentesh’s delightful right foot volley from a splendid 30 yard cross-field pass from Tani and the last 2 games of the tournament where our talisman Shaan Popat was missing due to illness but the team coming together.  The boys were deserved winners having looked the best footballing team at the tournament all morning.   Our performances in each and every game mirrored that of our Wednesday fixtures since half term so I was delighted the boys were able to see the fruits of their labour.

It is always very difficult to single out players of the tournament, especially when you win, as everyone plays their part but my 3 from the day were Shaan and Yuvraj for a couple of fantastic last ditch tackles and the quiet unsung hero Leo in goal who made a couple of extremely important saves to keep our momentum going throughout the tournament.
