This time last year, I witnessed a wonderful final between Edge Grove and Orley Farm that saw us pull the game out of the jaws in the final seconds of the game, giving us the shield. Today was equally dramatic as our rather less experienced team took to the court and played some stunning basketball against both St. Martin’s and Lochinver House before meeting Edge Grove, with us hoping to secure a place in the final. However, Edge Grove pulled off a fantastic 3 pointer in the dying seconds of the game forcing us to have a shoot out with St. Martin’s. With nerves of steel we took our chances giving us a rematch against Edge Grove for the decider.
The final was physical to say the least and competition was fierce but there was also such touch and control being displayed by both teams – it was wonderful to watch. With both sides being a little nervy, it was far from easy to call until the final quarter when Orley Farm found their range and the baskets started to come. Congratulations to this team who really came together on the day. A very big thank you to Mr Bloom for organising this event – it’s always well contested but with healthy handshakes at the close!
