Barbados Cricket Tour Sports Quiz Night

15/12/2017

Is FC Santa Claus really a football team? What is the ‘para’ short for in the word Paralympics? What name links West Ham’s former ground and one of Henry VIII’s wives? Which is the only summer Olympic sport to start with the letter ‘D’? These were just some of the questions posed at our Barbados Cricket Tour Sports Quiz Night. 15 teams pitted their wits against Mr Bloom’s warped sporting brain to raise money for our forthcoming cricket tour to the West Indies next April on an excellent evening of entertainment in the Butler Hall. Team Arjun came out victorious by just half a point with a winning total of 94.5 out of 100!

A raffle (and an impromptu auction!) concluded the evening with prizes including a signed and framed Joe Root signature bat, a framed and signed print of four England cricketers (Root, Broad, Stokes and Buttler), a signed Middlesex CCC playing shirt, eight handbags courtesy of Paul’s Boutique, a Fire tablet with Alexa, champagnes and wines, match tickets for Arsenal FC, Queens Park Rangers FC and Saracens RFC and many more items as well…

The evening raised nearly £2000 and, together with several Pimm’s and ice lolly afternoons and various cake sales at school fairs, we have raised almost £3000 which will go towards tour kit for the boys. Many thanks to all of the tables for their support and their generosity with donating such fantastic raffle prizes. After the recent snowfall and sub-zero temperatures, the thought of the Caribbean sunshine and sand (now only a little more than 100 days away!) gets ever nearer…

And for the record, the answers to the above are (i) yes, they play in the third division in Finland, (ii) parallel, (iii) Boleyn, and (iv) diving!
