Academic Life

Pupils at Orley Farm are fortunate to be educated in beautiful surroundings by expert, caring staff in well-equipped facilities.  From the very beginning in Reception all pupils have access to specialist teaching staff and purpose built classrooms.

Our Ethos is “Aiming for Excellence,” and this is apparent in everything we do.  Whether working towards academic scholarships to St. Paul’s and Westminster, participating in musical recitals, staging dramatic productions or excelling on the sports field, at Orley Farm we expect the children to be the best that they can be.  In the classroom children are challenged and supported in order to ensure that they make progress of which to be proud.  A variety of teaching techniques, class groups and sets ensures that the individual is motivated to succeed.  From Year 3 pupils are taught in Maths and English groups to enable us to maximise potential. In Years 7 and 8, when we start to prepare pupils for their 13+ entry, we run a fast track class and two parallel classes.  This enables us to tailor the pupils’ preparation towards their Senior School entrance examinations and / or scholarship papers.

The children are encouraged to be independent and to take responsibility for their own learning and actions. We have high expectations for all, with a clear focus on high achievement for every pupil taking into consideration their individual abilities, aptitudes and aspirations.  Whilst preparing pupils academically we are also preparing them for life with the embedded Thinking Skills that are part of everything we do.
