Sporting Values…well done girls!

18/06/2015

I thoroughly enjoyed getting out of my office this week, it’s report writing season and I did not go into teaching to sit at a desk, so distractions come easily to me at this time of year!  Our U10 A and B teams were playing Belmont and the sun was shining.  The commitment and level of competition was everything that I would expect but I was especially impressed when the matches wrapped up.  Miss Phelan invited our girls to select the Belmont player of the game and to give reasons and then this was reciprocated.  It was amazing to hear the genuine thought and comment that went into this and the value that the girls place on playing the game in the right manner…something that can be lacking in older role-models from time to time?

I mention this because a prospective parent went to great lengths to talk about this on a recent tour of the school.  He had heard about Orley Farm pupils playing to win but playing with a code of honour…I’m delighted to see touches like this that highlight the very essence of sporting values.  Thank you girls…I returned to my office full of wonderment!
