Our Edge Gardening group were treated to a unique opportunity to look into the future of energy conservation – very topical as our Eco Team looks to create new whole school targets. A very kind neighbour on South Hill Avenue invited us to see a project that they have started in their garden. Geothermal boreholes are drilled to an amazing depth (100+ metres) in order to harvest the absorbed solar heat stored in the outermost crust of the earth. Here was a firsthand opportunity to see this process in operation and I would like to thank Mr and Mrs Mistry for allowing us to see this project. Our gardeners returned asking questions of the school and what we could do to reduce our energy consumption – I suspect that the Eco Team might well have some more ambitious plans to put to the bursar…!
