Girls’ Games and Sports

The Girls’ Games department are passionate, vibrant and dedicated towards the delivery of sport. Sport plays an important part in the life of every girl at Orley Farm School in our beautiful 36 acre site. Our comprehensive sports program feeds into an extensive competitive environment where students are challenged and supported in their pursuit of sporting excellence. With an extensive sports program on offer we ensure that all girls have the chance to represent the school in competitive situations. Sporting fixtures against other schools are a regular part of the calendar and our girls routinely compete in different matches, tournaments and festivals. In Years 3 and 4, girls are exposed to one and a half hours of lesson per week and this increases to a minimum of two and a quarter hours a week from Year 5 upwards. We host three tournaments in all of our main sports, netball, hockey and rounders; we hold an annual netball festival and regular athletic heats in the summer term. Girls have been involved in Sports Tours (including our annual ski trip) to Spain and Ireland.

This term the girls will be enhancing their skills predominately in netball and with some hockey. Within Middle School our Year 3 and 4 (U8 and U9), have teams ranging from A-D level. In Year 5 (U10), we have A-C teams and in Year 6 (U11) we have A-D teams. All girls will have the opportunity to represent their teams in competitive situations; matches, festivals and tournaments. For netball, we have four small netball courts mainly for the Year 3 and 4 teams and four full-sized courts for Years 5 and 6. In hockey, we have four small-sized pitches and two bigger pitches.

Rounders, cricket and athletics are the three main sports that the girls concentrate on in this term. However, with such wonderful sports facilities we also offer tennis and swimming to help promote an extensive programme. Within the summer term, we have athletics heats against other school in which all of the girls from a year group would be involved and rounders and cricket matches for all. Teams are similar to the autumn and spring terms but may vary slightly due to larger numbers being involved in each team. We are extremely lucky to have three rounders pitches, an astroturf (and possible use of a senior school) for our cricket and the use of our beautiful Summerfield track for athletics.
